What Causes Insomnia in Toddlers?

Insomnia in children can be caused by a number of different factors. Some of these factors may be medical conditions, allergies, or other factors. If you are concerned about your child’s sleep, call your pediatrician for a consultation. The pediatrician will be able to provide you with an accurate diagnosis and develop a treatment plan for your child.

For younger children, try to establish a bedtime routine that includes a bath, snack, and reading. A good bedtime routine will also help your child get into a healthy sleeping pattern.

During the toddler years, children often have trouble sleeping. Often, these problems are associated with fears or other factors. However, they do not necessarily indicate a serious problem.

Toddlers can also wake up during the night due to teething pain, an earache, or even bad dreams. In order to prevent these issues, it is important to set firm limits for your child.

If your child is waking up in the middle of the night, you may need to consider an overnight sleep study. An overnight sleep study can confirm if your child is suffering from an underlying sleep disorder.

One of the best ways to help your child sleep is to limit the lights in the room. Avoid a bright TV or computer screen at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Bright light interferes with the body’s natural sleep hormone, melatonin.

Children who have a fear of the dark should avoid using the computer or television for at least an hour before bedtime. Similarly, you should turn off all blue lights from electronics at least one hour before going to sleep.
