Liberal senator Stephen Parry has told the Government he may be a dual citizen, saying he has asked British authorities to examine his history.
Senator Parry is Tasmanian-born but his father migrated from Britain as a child.
In his maiden speech, Senator Parry said he came from a long line of Tasmanians and was a descendent of the First Fleet.
"I am a Tasmanian by birth and come from a line of many generations of Tasmanians," he said.
"In fact, I am a descendant of the First Fleet convicts who arrived on January 26, 1788 onboard the ships the Scarborough and the Prince of Wales."
