Trauma, ITV’s new thriller which takes place across three nights, is sure to get people talking.
Given that it’s the latest drama from Mike Bartlett, the brains behind hit Suranne Jones drama Doctor Foster, expect plenty of tension, a few shock twists and gripping central performances from two of the UK’s finest actors.
ITV seem to be nailing the ‘event series’ at the moment following on from Liar last year, starring Joanne Frogatt and Bancroft, with Sarah Parish, back in January.
It will be going head to head with Collateral on BBC Two on the same night, so to help you make your mind up here’s everything you need to know about Trauma.
What is Trauma about?
Trauma focuses on the lives of two fathers, Dan and Jon, whose lives collide with heartbreaking consequences when Dan’s teenage son Alex is stabbed and tragically dies in the trauma department run by high-flying consultant Jon.
A devastated Dan blames Jon for Alex’s death as Jon’s own life begins to unravel.
Who is in the cast?
John Simm plays factory manager Dan Bowker while Adrian Lester plays trauma surgeon Jon Allerton.
They are joined by Jade Anouka as Jon’s daughter Alana and Rowena King as Jon’s wife Lisa.
Lyndsey Marshal plays Dan’s wife Susie and Jemima Rooper plays Jon’s colleague Nora Baker.
Is it any good?
The first episode doesn’t waste any time in setting up what should be a tense cat and mouse game between Dan and Jon. While Marshal does a lot of emotional heavy lifting after the death of Alex, Simm’s scenes with Lester are electric – particularly their clash at Alex’s funeral. Even if the entire episode was dedicated to the fathers just arguing in a room, it’d be gold.
Sold! When does it start?
Trauma starts 12 February at 9pm on ITV.
