It has been a pretty emotional year for Alexandra Burke following the tragic death of her mother before the show began, but the Strictly Come Dancing finalist has hit back at those claiming her tears on the show are ‘fake’.

Ahead of the final she’s taken the time to hit back at critics who blasted her tears – as she broke down beside dance partner Gorka Marquez following a video of support for her and the dancer.

Attempting to hold back her tears on Strictly: It Takes Two on Friday night, the singer said: ‘Honestly, I don’t think people realise how much [the support] means.’

Addressing the backlash she hit back at critics: ‘I’ll just be honest and say I know some people may not like seeing me cry but man – I’ve been through the toughest time of my life.

‘I’ve seen the light at the end of the tunnel but I’m still trying to reach it. But if it wasn’t for everyone who supported what I’ve gone through, I don’t know where I’d be. I’m really grateful.’

The West End actress, who was heavily attacked by trolls, says she now feels like she can’t express how she truly feels because of them.

‘Twitter seems to have given people permission to be incredibly hurtful,’ Alexandra told Radio Times.’ They don’t seem to realise that I have feelings and get upset.

‘The saddest thing is that I started the show completely myself – my joy and my tears were 100 per cent genuine, however much people said they were fake – but I’m now so self-conscious.’

‘I try not to react at all in case people say, “Oh, look, here are the fake tears again.”

‘I have struggled with some of the public reaction. I’ve never experienced anything like this.’

On Strictly: It Takes Two on Wednesday night, Zoe Ball confirmed to Alexandra Gorka that she’s received the most amount of 39s in Strictly history.

In Strictly Come Dancing 2017 so far, the singer has received five near-perfect scores of 39.

She beats Harry Judd, Rachel Stevens and Chelsee Healey who held the record of four 39s.

Which begs the question, if she receives another 39 in the final on Saturday night, will she beat her own record? Of course, she will!

Speaking on It Takes Two, Zoe said: ‘Little fact for you now people, I know how you love them. With a total of five, you Alexandra have received the most 39s in Strictly history. It’s brilliant! It’s a fact, people.’

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Alexandra revealed that the number five is her lucky number. Who’d have thought it?

The record for the most 39s in Strictly was held by three contestants; Harry Judd, Chelsee Healey and Rachel Stevens, all of whom had earned four lots of 39s.

It looks like things are on the up for Alexandra even if Bey doesn’t come out to Salsa with her for this final.

Strictly Come Dancing airs live on BBC One at 6:30pm.
