Ibrahim family bodyguard ‘Tongan Sam’ shot in the back

Semi Ngata, who is a bodyguard for members of the Ibrahim family, has been found shot in the back outside John Ibrahim's mother's house in Sydney's west, the ABC understands.

The 59-year-old — also known as "Tongan Sam" — was found outside a home on Price Street in Merrylands about 11pm yesterday.

It is understood police are investigating whether Mr Ngata was shot elsewhere and then left at the home.

He remains at Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

He is refusing to cooperate with police.

The ABC understands the man works for members of the Ibrahim family, who are notorious for their alleged links to organised crime.

There is no crime scene at the home and no one has been arrested.

Police are also investigating whether a burnt car found nearby is connected to the shooting.
